LONDON - As Turkey’s greatest commercial investor in commercial airline fleets, Pegasus Airlines has now taken delivery of its 16th Boeing 737-800 from an order of 40.

At the launch of its scheduled flights in 2005, Pegasus Airlines took steps to establish a ‘fleet of the future’ and in accordance with its ongoing tradition has named this new aircraft ‘Irem Naz’ after the daughter of Bahtiyar ?entürk of its Izmir Hub.

Pegasus Airlines has so far taken delivery of the following aircraft: Hayirli (November 2007), Hanim (January 2008), Gulce (August 2008), Ece (February 2009), Selin (June 2009), Merve (August 2009), Dilara (20 March 2010), Isik (2 April 2010), Duru (14 April 2010), Sude Naz (8 June 2010), Damla (26 June 2010), Mina Nisa (30 June 2010), Derin (31 July 2010) and Nisa Nur (26 January 2011).

Pegasus Airlines, which provides the wider public with economic air travel, recorded an increase in guests on domestic flights of 42% against an average of 15% for the Turkish aviation sector, i.e. three times faster than the domestic airline sector. During this time Pegasus Airlines’ international routes also saw a 26% growth in passenger numbers. In parallel with this growth Pegasus Airlines placed an order for 40 Next-Generation Boeing 737-800s at a value of $3.2 billion list price.

As the first privately owned airline in Turkey to make such a large order, Pegasus continues to take delivery of its Next-Generation aircraft and by the end of 2011 will have a fleet of 40 aircraft, including its sister airline’s Izair’s. By 2015 the entire order of aircraft will have joined Pegasus Airlines’ fleet.
