Dublin & London, 7 February 2011: Aer Lingus Group plc (“Aer Lingus”), today announced traffic statistics for the month of January 2011.
Aer Lingus’ booked load factor in January 2011 decreased by 3.6 points on January 2010 to 63.8%. Short haul booked load factor was 62.8%, a decrease of 4.8 points on January 2010, with capacity decreasing by 15.2% as a result of the industrial dispute with the IMPACT cabin crew union and planned year-on-year reductions at Belfast, London Gatwick and Cork. Long haul booked load factor was 65.7%, a decrease of 1.3 points on January 2010, with capacity decreasing by 14.2% as a result of the industrial dispute with the IMPACT cabin crew union, planned year-on-year reductions at Shannon and weather-related disruptions.
Aer Lingus’ total booked passenger numbers in January 2011 were 552,000, a decrease of 17.0% compared to January 2010. Short haul booked passengers were 504,000, a 17.1% decrease on January 2010 while long haul booked passengers in January 2011 were 48,000, a decrease of 15.8% on January 2010. As a result of flight cancellations in January 2011 passengers carried were 4% below the level of booked passengers.
