Aerolíneas Argentinas announces new nonstop flights to New York

Effective December 15th, 2013, Aerolíneas Argentinas will fly daily nonstop from Buenos Aires to New York John Fitzgerald Kennedy Airport (JFK).

The flights will be at night in both directions, allowing connections with services of other strategic partners of the SkyTeam Alliance in New York, and with Aerolíneas Argentinas’ own network at Buenos Aires-Ezeiza Ministro Pistarini International Airport.

Flights will be operated with Airbus 330-200 aircraft with 264 seats, in a two-class configuration: 22 lie-flat seats in Club Cóndor and 242 seats in Economy. Aircrafts are equiped with a state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment system with AVOD functionality (Audio and Video on Demand) and a new cabin mood lighting equipment, which will allow to create a specially designed atmosphere for each phase of flight.

Aerolíneas Argentinas suspended operations to New York in April 2008, during the previous administration. Returning to New York is part of the company´s 2010-2014 Business Plan. New York is among the top 3 international destinations for passengers traveling from Argentina. The new flights will help to strengthen Argentina´s presence as a touristic, cultural and business destination in a market of global significance like New York.

The history of Aerolíneas in New York is decades long. On March 21st, 1950, flights were inaugurated with Douglas DC-6 with stops at Rio de Janeiro, Belem, Port of Spain and Havana. Later in 1957 services were increased to three times per week. On May 29th, 1959, the Comet IV began operations on the route, while on December 15th, 1966, all flights were covered with Boeing 707s. In the 80’s Aerolíneas Argentinas became the first airline operating nonstop flights between Buenos Aires and New York with Boeing 747 Jumbo.

"Aerolíneas Argentinas continues to move forward on a path of growth. The design of the long-haul network with the addition of New York responds to an optimized scheme aimed at strengthening the short and medium haul networks as well. The product aboard our Airbus 330-200 has been designed to provide a world-class travel experience and meet the expectations of our passengers, "said Mariano Recalde, President and CEO.
