Aerolineas Argentinas transported 9 million passengers in 2014 and keeps growing

The President of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Dr. Mariano Recalde, received this afternoon at the Aeroparque Metropolitano ”Jorge Newbery” the passenger number nine million, who arrived on a flight coming from the city of Salta.

Thus, Aerolíneas Argentinas sets a new record in transportation of passengers so far in this year exceeding the mark of the entire last year that was of 8.4 million.

Thus, all objectives of growth proposed by the State management that, from 5.377.958 passengers that have flown by Aerolíneas and Austral in 2008, at the end of the private administration, turned into 8.343.355 in 2013 (55 % more) and today they reach 9 million passengers, have been fulfilled.

The increase in the number of passengers transported it is caused, fundamentally, by the increase and modernization of the Aerolíneas and Austral fleet, that has 69 operating aircraft; a 26% more of offering of seats; and a 22% more of operations due to the increase of frequencies and the opening of new routes that interconnect provinces, as the “federal corridors” are.

The passenger number nine million arrived today at the Aeroparque Metropolitano ”Jorge Newbery” on the flight AR 2463, coming from Salta, that landed at 3:20 PM and he is Hernán Guanuco, a young 27 years old miner that flew to Comodoro Rivadavia as his final destination.

At receiving the passenger number nine million, Dr. Recalde expressed “every year the quantity of passenger grows because Argentina grows, each time that people have more jobs and better salaries to travel by plane and because we have recovered the air transportation with the Aerolíneas recovering”.

It is worth to remember that, when the management of the Company started to be at the National State charge, in 2008, the number of passengers transported reached to 5.3 million/year. In 2009, 5.5 million people chose to fly by Aerolíneas; in 2010 6.4 millions of passengers did it. In 2011, the eruption of the Puyehue Volcano, that affected the air commercial activity in the country and in the region, made the figures decrease to 6.1 million; in 2012 exceeded the 7 million of passengers and, as it has already been said last year 8.4 million people traveled by Aerolíneas and Austral.
