Aerolineas remains on track with business plan

The cumulative operating results for October show a continuing growth in the supply of seats, product improvement and a positive response from passengers. Aerolineas Argentinas, the national airline of Argentina, continues on its path of economic and commercial recovery, once again showing positive figures in the evolution of passenger traffic.

For the period January-October 2010, passenger traffic measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs), was 11,322,000, representing an increase of 22.8% over the same period last year, while capacity as available seat kilometers (ASKs) was 15,635.34 million, which means an increase of 20.1%. As a result, load factor increased 1.62 points to reach 72.48%.

These numbers are a reflection of a growing operation and a more efficient use of resources, where the flight hours in the first ten months of the year climbed up to 138.748 compared to 117.411 (18.2%) in the same period previous year; the total frequencies – number of return flights operated – in the same period rose to a total of 26.495 leaving far behind the 21.092 (25,6%) flown in the same period in 2009, thus allowing to carry a total of 5,357,651 passengers, compared to 4,330,747 (+23.7%) in the same period from January to October 2009. The number for flight hours represents a record for that period since the 2000, year that this statistic started to be part of the key performance indicators.

As a result of the increased operation and an also improved load factor, revenues reached U$S 917.1 million, which represents an increase of 49.9% year over year. In the first 10 months of 2010, Aerolineas already exceeded 2009 total revenues.

One of the reasons for the positive evolution of the performance indicators is the strength of Argentina’s economy, which continues with a strong GDP growth, boosting demand both domestically and internationally. Additionally, pursuant to the provisions of the Business Plan 2010-2014, Aerolineas undertook a series of initiatives to strengthen its business model, which showed great success and acceptance.

“Aerolineas Argentinas is oriented on becoming the best option for passengers, and on that direction our main efforts are focused on increasing frequencies to already operated destinations”, said Mariano Recalde, President and CEO.
