LOT Polish Airlines – Polish national carrier – to be European launch airline for Boeing newcomer.
Paris, Amstelveen, 19 July 2012 – LOT Polish Airlines has signed a long-term component support agreement with AFI KLM E&M for its fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which will ultimately comprise eight aircraft. LOT is scheduled to deploy the Dreamliner in January 2013.
A competitive and adaptive offer
The signing of this contract with LOT Polish Airlines marks the launch of the 787 component service offer designed by AFI KLM E&M, whose parent airlines have also ordered the Dreamliner. The support provided for LOT Polish Airlines covers repairs and pool access for more than 600 part numbers, together with logistics support and the provision of a stock of spare parts at the customer’s main base.
Ton Dortmans EVP KLM Engineering & Maintenance is delighted with this first Boeing 787 contract “which highlights the expertise and control provided by AFI KLM E&M’s offerings for the maintenance market, especially when it comes to new-generation products. Our lengthy maintenance track-record is based on the operational know-how we acquire on the strength of the work we carry out on our own fleets, for the benefit of customers like LOT, which we are proud to support.”
The know-how of an MRO/Airline group
In addition to the competitive nature of its tender, it was the dual profile of AFI KLM E&M which convinced LOT to call on the MRO’s services, as AFI KLM E&M is currently the only MRO on the market backed by an airline which has decided to include the Dreamliner in its fleet. This is the guarantee of in-depth knowledge of the aircraft and the demands involved in operating it. That expertise is further strengthened by the strategic partnerships forged by AFI KLM E&M with leading Boeing 787 equipment manufacturers such as Hamilton-Sundstrand.
Commenting on its choice of AFI KLM E&M, Tomasz Balcerzak, Management Board Member for Operational Affairs in LOT Polish Airlines, said: “In view of their know-how and the guarantees provided in terms both of pricing and the operational availability of our aircraft, this was the best decision LOT could have taken, enabling it to benefit from the long tradition of quality and the proofs of adaptability offered by AFI KLM E&M.”
