Air Arabia improves efficiency in flight planning with IT from Lufthansa Systems

The Middle East carrier Air Arabia optimizes its flight planning with Lido/Flight from Lufthansa Systems. Lido/Flight calculates optimal flight routes based on various factors and can reduce fuel costs by up to five percent. The IT provider has successfully implemented the flight planning solution as well as the additional modules Airline Operations Support (AOS) and Inflight Monitor (IFM). The new system is also used by the airline’s affiliates Air Arabia Maroc and Air Arabia Egypt.

Air Arabia is the first and largest low cost carrier in the Middle East and North Africa market. The airline serves to over 57 destinations spreading across the Middle East, North Africa, Asia and Europe.

With its modern technology and user-friendly architecture, Lido/Flight covers all aspects of flight planning. The system provides dispatchers with a host of optimization options regarding flight time, fuel consumption or costs of each flight. Lido/Flight also offers additional modules which facilitate dispatchers’ work in various subtasks. One of these is the AOS module, which fully automates the flight planning process. The IFM module automatically monitors every flight which has been calculated but not yet completed. The system reports all updated airspace restrictions, airport and weather data and automatically suggests alternative routes to the dispatcher if necessary.

“I am very proud that Air Arabia has joined the growing circle of Lido/Flight users. The benefits of this powerful solution convinced many Middle Eastern airlines making Lido/Flight the leading flight planning solution in the region with a market share of around 35 percent,” said Stefan Auerbach, Senior Vice President Airline Solutions at Lufthansa Systems.

In the Middle East, already more than 20 leading airlines use the products and services of Lufthansa Systems. They include the most prominent brands in the region’s aviation industry, such as Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways, among others.
