Air Astana heading for paperless cockpit with navigation charts from Lufthansa Systems

Lufthansa Systems today announced that Air Astana has opted for several aeronautical solutions of the IT provider’s portfolio. The Kazakh airline recently signed a five-year contract for the Lido/RouteManual and Lido/eRouteManual cockpit solutions as well as the interactive Lido/Enroute app. The comprehensive IT package will enable Air Astana to benefit from efficient route planning, safe flight operations as well as cost reductions and fuel savings. In addition, the solutions’ electronic versions pave the way for a paperless cockpit for Air Astana.

“We selected the paper-based and electronic navigation charts from Lufthansa Systems because we were impressed by the excellent quality and high level of usability,” said Russel Ellis, Director Operations Control at Air Astana. “Thanks to the electronic versions, Air Astana can now take off towards a paperless and more fuel-efficient future.”

Lido/RouteManual and its electronic counterpart Lido/eRouteManual provide the airline with navigation charts for take-off and landing procedures as well as airport and route charts. Generated directly from the Lido navigation database, the charts contain all important route information including altitude and airport data. The charts show true-to-scale topographical information such as the height of mountains and course of rivers, and are oriented to magnetic north. The electronic solution Lido/eRouteManual also offers the airline faster and easier updating and zoom in or out functionality to change the depth of information on the charts. Furthermore, Lido/Enroute enables Air Astana to provide its pilots with a worldwide, fully dynamic and interactive enroute chart for all its flights on Apple’s iPad. Lido/Enroute allows interactive configuration and easy look-up of relevant information airline pilots need for safe flight operations.

“We are proud to count Air Astana among the customers of our cockpit solutions. Our paper-based and electronic navigation charts give the airline’s pilots access to all important information on all required routes and airports in a clear and easily legible layout, enabling them to make a smooth transition to the paperless cockpit,” said Marco Cesa, Senior Vice President Regional Management EMEA at Lufthansa Systems.
