Air France: New engine servicing workshop

Wednesday 8 December 2010

Located in Air France’s Orly industrial facility, a new building spanning 10,000 sq. m allows the airline to double its handling capacity of the new generation “Very Big Engines”, such as the General Electric GE90 engines that equip its Boeing 777-200 and 300-ERs or those of its many industrial customers.

The new building, christened “Constellation”, accommodates a new engine overhaul workshop which strengthens operational efficiency by reducing by four days the engine overhaul handling timeframe, while significantly improving work conditions.

As with all new real estate projects, “Constellation” integrates the HQE (High Environmental Quality) standards, thus reducing its environmental footprint.

The construction of this workshop forms part of an investment programme amounting to close to 70 million euros at Orly. It illustrates Air France’s ambition to modernize its infrastructures and constantly improve the overall performance of its “Engines, Aircraft & Services” activities while strengthening the positioning of “Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance” as a key player on the aeronautical maintenance market.

The new building was inaugurated on Thursday 8 December by Pierre-Henri Gourgeon, CEO of Air France-KLM  and Michel Camux, Préfet  for the Val-de-Marne district.

Key figures:
10.500 sq. m
Height: 14.00 m
Building front made of metal cladding and reinforced concrete panels
12-month study and company selection process, 14-month construction
