Air Malta to send technical delegation to Libya

17 Oct 2011 – Air Malta is making arrangements to send a technical delegation next week to Tripoli and Benghazi to assess the situation at these airports. The delegation will be meeting the highest authorities of these airports and carrying out audits to assert their operational conditions.

The Air Malta team will include individuals from the airline’s commercial, security, ground services, flight operations and engineering sections.

This delegation’s visit follows a meeting held between Air Malta’s Chief Executive Peter Davies and the Libyan Provisional Government Transport Minister, Anwar El Feitori. The meeting was held in Malta during the signing of the agreement between Libyan and NATO officials on the establishment of air corridors to be used for civil aircraft.

Air Malta is closely working with the Maltese Government and Libyan officials with a view to facilitate travel arrangements and restart flights as soon as possible.

Since it is likely that operations will first start to Benghazi Air Malta highlights the importance to have the visa issuance process from Benghazi facilitated. This is critical for the feasibility of this route.
