Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation announced today that it has signed an Aircraft Purchase Agreement with Air Mandalay Limited (AML) for an order of six firm MRJ90 with purchase rights to an additional four MRJ90. This agreement testifies to the high regard in which AML holds the economic efficiency and reliability of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ), Japan’s next-generation regional aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2018.
Air Mandalay Limited (AML), a Yangon, Myanmar-based airline, currently operates three regional turboprops and is seeking to expand and enhance its fleet’s capability through the introduction of regional jets. The addition of the MRJ will provide unprecedented benefits to drive the airline’s expected growth in the region. Moreover, the MRJ, along with AML’s strong management team and Myanmar’s strategic geographic location in the competitive Asian market, will provide AML and Mitsubishi Aircraft with an opportunity to stay ahead of the industry for years to come.
Thus far, 325 MRJ (165 firm, 160 option) are on order, including 25 (15 firm, 10 option) from All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd., 100 (50 firm, 50 option) from Trans States Holdings, Inc., and 200 (100 firm, 100 option) from SkyWest, Inc. AML is the first Asian airline outside of Japan to select the MRJ.
By 2032, Mitsubishi Aircraft anticipates demand of about 1,000 airplanes in the expanding Asian regional jet market. This agreement will enable the company to accelerate sales efforts across the region.
Mitsubishi Aircraft remains firmly committed to the success of the MRJ program as well as the growth of Japan’s aviation industry.
