airberlin connects Linz to its Berlin hub

Flight schedule extended to include sixth destination in Austria

Germany’s second-largest airline, airberlin is commencing flights with effect from 1 June 2011 to Linz airport, connecting the state capital of upper Austria directly with its hub in Berlin. Flying five times a week, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, airberlin will offer a 174-seat service between Berlin-Tegel and Linz.

“By adding Linz to our flight schedule, we are increasing our Austrian destinations to six,” said Director of Route Management at airberlin, Christian Peter, at a press conference on Friday. “airberlin is now creating the first alternative connection for the economically important region of upper Austria to all major German cities as well as Scandinavia. As well as tourism, we believe this connection also offers tremendous potential for business travellers.”

The Managing Director of the Linz’s Blue Danube Airport, Gerhard Kunesch, said: “The new Linz-Berlin route is a huge boost for the upper Austrian market in every respect. On the one hand, Berlin is a fantastically exciting destination both for business travellers and tourists, while on the other, this new route will also offer German passengers a direct connection to upper Austria.”
Linz airport has until now been served by the airberlin subsidiary Niki. Over the coming season, the airline will also link the location with the hub in Palma de Mallorca, providing attractive flights to sunny Spanish and Portuguese destinations.

Flights between Berlin and Linz can be booked now from Euro 44.99. The summer and winter timetables up until 30 April 2012 have already been released.
