airberlin: Increased capacity utilization in April

In April 2011, airberlin transported a total of 2,778,784 passengers, i.e. an increase of 22.5 percent. Fleet capacity for April 2011 increased by 16.3 percent. The significantly higher capacity and number of passengers results from the fact that in the corresponding month of the previous year more than 3,500 flights were cancelled due to the effects of the volcanic eruption in Iceland. Fleet capacity utilization for April increased from 72.2 to 76.1 percent, i.e. an increase of 3.9 percentage points.

For the period from January to April 2011, a total of 9,650,585 passengers traveled on airberlin’s flight route network, i.e. 7.1 percent more than in the corresponding period of the previous year (2010: 9,009,886 passengers). Accumulated capacity for the first four months of the year increased by 3.1 percent. Capacity utilization for the first four months of the year increased from 70.8 to 73.5 percent, i.e. by 2.7 percentage points.
