Alaska Airlines Inaugurates More Bay Area-Hawaii Service

SEATTLE, March 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Alaska Airlines inaugurates nonstop service between San Jose, Calif., and Lihue, on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, on Sunday, March 27, and between Oakland, Calif., and Lihue beginning March 28. The San Jose flights will operate three times weekly and the Oakland flights will operate four times weekly.

The new service complements the airline’s existing Hawaii flights from San Jose and Oakland to Kahului, Maui, and Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii.

“These new flights to the beautiful ‘Garden Isle’ of Kauai will be a great addition to Alaska’s Hawaii service for our Bay Area customers,” said Joe Sprague, Alaska’s vice president of marketing. “The San Jose and Oakland airports are, indeed, convenient alternatives for Bay Area travelers flying to the Islands.”

With the new service, Alaska Airlines now offers 105 weekly round-trip flights from the U.S. mainland and state of Alaska to Hawaii.

Hawaii flights are operated with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, accommodating 16 passengers in first class and 141 in the main cabin. Inflight service includes meals for purchase in the main cabin, complimentary meal service in first class and Alaska Airlines’ digEplayer, a personal entertainment system offering a variety of movies, television shows, music and other features.
