ALTA Member Airlines Passenger Traffic Increases 10.0% in May

(Miami, July 1st, 2013) – The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) announced that its member airlines carried 12.8 million passengers in May, up 10.0% from the previous year.

Traffic (RPK) grew 9.1% and capacity (ASK) increased 6.0%, bringing up the load factor to 75.7%, 2.2 percentage points higher than in May 2012.

The number of passengers carried year-to-date increased 6.2% versus the same period of the previous year, reaching 64.0 million passengers. During the aforementioned period, traffic (RPK) rose 6.9%, capacity (ASK) increased 5.6%, and the passenger load factor reached 75.9%, 0.9 percentage points higher than the previous year.

Freight ton kilometers declined 0.4% in May but increased 1.8% year-to-date.
