ALTA Member Airlines Passenger Traffic Increases 9.7% in August

Miami, October 3, 2012 – The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) announced that its member airlines carried 13.0 million passengers in August, up 9.7% from the previous year.

Traffic (RPK) grew 9.0% and capacity (ASK) increased 4.6%, bringing up the load factor to 77.3%, 3.1 percentage points higher than in August 2011.

The number of passengers carried year-to-date increased 6.8% versus the same period of the previous year, reaching 98.1 million passengers. During the aforementioned period, traffic (RPK) rose 8.1%, capacity (ASK) increased 7.0%, and the passenger load factor reached 76.4%, 0.8 percentage points higher than the previous year.

Freight ton kilometers increased 7.5% in August and 7.5% year-to-date.
