Austrian Airlines Continues Its Focus on North America in the Coming Year

ˇ Daily flight service offered to all North American destinations as of 2015
ˇ Expansion of transit traffic to Moldova

Austrian Airlines has been offering flight service to a new long-haul destination in the USA since July 2, 2014, namely Newark. Following the successful launch of flight service on this route, Austria’s national carrier will increase its flight frequency from five to six times per week starting in April 2015. Flights to Newark operating a Boeing 767 aircraft will be expanded to seven times weekly as of June 2015. Austrian Airlines will continue to offer daily flights to JFK, the second airport in New York. Daily flight service will also be maintained to Chicago, Washington and Toronto, Canada. This means that the new flight schedule of Austrian Airlines will include daily flights to all its North American destinations starting in June 2015.

In addition due to the positive demand in transit traffic, Austrian Airlines is expanding its flight service to and from Chişinău. Instead of seven times per week, up to ten flights will be offered in the future to the Moldovan capital. This increase, implemented in response to growing demand from the region, enables Austrian Airlines to provide optimal connections to its North Atlantic flights. Transfer traffic accounts for 63% of the passengers flying from the USA to Eastern Europe with a stopover in Vienna.

Crisis areas in the Middle East and Ukraine
In comparison to its winter timetable for 2013/14, Austrian Airlines has removed Tripoli from its new flight schedule for the winter of 2014/15 due to the current political situation. In contrast, flights will continue to be offered to Tel Aviv, Charkiw and Dnjepropetrowsk. Austrian Airlines will also provide flight service to Teheran up to five times per week. Flights will no longer be operated to Istanbul in the new winter timetable, but will be resumed up to once daily in time for the beginning of the Easter holidays in 2015.

Once again Austrian Airlines is offering passengers an extensive range of flights to choose from in its winter timetable 2014/2015. On balance, Austria’s national carrier will operate flights to up to 100 different destinations in 56 countries around the world this coming winter. In the course of the year Austrian Airlines expands this offering to encompass a global route network of about 130 destinations. In particular, the holiday destinations in Greece, Spain and Turkey account for the difference.

Specialist for Eastern Europe
Austrian Airlines continues to be the market leader among Western European airlines operating from one hub when it comes to Eastern European destinations. The national carrier will offer flights to a total of 39 destinations in the region in the upcoming winter. Four destinations in Russia alone will be served nonstop from Vienna, namely Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar and Rostov. Five destinations are included in Austrian Airlines’ flight service to Ukraine, including Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkov, Lemberg and also Odessa in cooperation with the codeshare partner Ukraine International Airlines. Austrian Airlines flies to Bucharest, Iasi and Sibiu in Romania. Moreover, Austrian Airlines is also providing flight service to Cluj in cooperation with the codeshare partner Tarom. Thus, Austrian Airlines is serving a total of four destinations in Romania.

Austrian Airlines links East and West
On balance, the new winter timetable includes 81 European destinations, along with ten long-haul destinations to North America and Asia, six to the Middle East and three to Africa. Thanks to its favorable geographical location, the home airport of Vienna is an ideal flight hub connecting East and West.

The winter flight schedule is valid from October 26, 2014 to March 28, 2015.
