Austrian Airlines carried 649,000 passengers in February 2011. This is by 1.6 percent less than in February 2010. The passenger load factor declined by 4.6 percentage points to hit 68.5 percent.
From January to February 2001, the passenger figure was 1.3 millions, which is the level of the year before. The passenger load factor declined by 3.3 percentage points to hit 67.9 percent. We increased the available seat kilometres (ASK) by 2.6 percent, the revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) fell by 2.1 percent.
The members of the Austrian Airlines Executive Board Peter Malanik und Andreas Bierwirth said: “The crisis in the Middle East region and the EU capacity restrictions damp our growth. We see a pick-up in demand for the second quarter”.
Europe
In February 2011, around 513,300 passengers flew with Austrian Airlines within Europe. This is exactly the equivalent of the previous year. The load factor fell slightly to 62 percent, a decline of 0.8 percentage points. Austrian Airlines increased the capacity measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) by 0.5 percent, the revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) fell by 0.8 percent.
From January to February 2011, the passenger figure was slightly more than one million in Europe. This is by 1.2 percent above last year’s number. The passenger load factor rose by 0.8 percentage points to hit 61.7 percent. The available seat kilometres (ASK) fell by 0.5 percent, the revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) rose by 0.9 percent.
Intercontinental
In February 2011, around 111,700 passengers flew with Austrian Airlines on intercontinental flights. This is by 1.9 percent more than previous year. The load factor fell to 73 percent, a decline of 8.2 percentage points. Austrian Airlines increased the capacity measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) by 12 percent, the revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) rose by 0.8 percent.
From January to February 2011, around 233,300 passengers flew with Austrian Airlines on intercontinental flights. This is by 3.7 percent more than previous year. The load factor fell to 72.3 percent, a decline of 7.3 percentage points. Austrian Airlines increased the capacity measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) by 12.6 percent, the revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) rose by 2.2 percent.
Charter
As a result of the capacity restriction set by the EU, Austrian Airlines had to reduce its ASK in the charter business segment.
In February 2011, the passenger figure fell by 33.8 percent to 24,000. The load factor fell by 2.1 percentage points to 79.1 percent. Austrian Airlines reduced the ASK by 47 percent. RPK fell by 48.4 percent.
From January to February 2011, the passenger figure fell by 30.5 percent to 50,200. The load factor fell by 2 percentage points to 74.6 percent. Austrian Airlines reduced the ASK by 46.2 percent. RPK fell by 47.6 percent.
