AWAS to Purchase and Leaseback two new A330-300 widebody passenger aircraft with AirAsia X

AWAS announced today that they have agreed to the purchase of two new A330-300 widebody passenger aircraft from AirAsia X that the airline had previously ordered directly from the manufacturer. As part of the agreement, AWAS will place the aircraft on long-term leases with the airline. The first of the two aircraft has delivered today.

Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of AirAsia X stated, “AWAS has been with us from the beginning with the lease of our first A330-300 to commence operations in 2007. We are now pleased to expand our relationship with them for an additional two new efficient A330-300 widebody aircraft so we can continue to serve this rapidly growing marketplace. Our experience with the AWAS team has been that they take the time and effort to understand our differentiated needs and unique business model and deliver on their promises.”

Ray Sisson, President & CEO AWAS stated, “AirAsia X serves a region with explosive population and GDP growth and they have been successful in providing a low cost solution with a highly-regarded brand to capitalise on the increased demand for air travel in these markets. AWAS has been with AirAsia X since day one and is very proud to further our relationship with them. We will continue to acquire new aircraft from airlines via the purchase and leaseback (PLB) channel as a key pillar of our growth plan.”

The aircraft will be based in Kuala Lumpur at the new KLIA 2 terminal which opened in May 2014. They will be used on long/medium haul regional routes in the Asia Pacific region including destinations in China, Australia and Japan.
