bmi regional has appointed a new sales manager to drive the growth of the business in the UK and Europe.
Ingeborg Gillegot will steer the development of the airline’s new sales and contracting structure following its break from IAG in May this year.
Initially focused on establishing regional sales teams and building the profile of the recently announced Aberdeen-Bristol and Manchester-Antwerp routes, she will also work with the senior management team to ensure the successful execution of the company’s growth strategy in the leisure and corporate contract markets.
Chairman Ian Woodley said: “We are continually investing in our business, both in terms of attracting and recruiting the best people and developing the systems and technology which maximise the services we offer our customers.
“We have emerged as a flexible, streamlined and forward-thinking airline and our commitment to growth is evident in the 40 additional jobs we have created in the last six months, the establishment of a new call centre and our relocation to a new 8,000sqft office complex at East Midlands Airport.
“A central strand of bmi regional’s expansion plan however is to significantly increase our presence in the UK and European marketplace. Ensuring that we have a strong sales division and the capacity to maintain our high levels of customer service going forward is a critical element of that.”
Bringing almost 20 years’ experience in the aviation industry with her to the role, Gillegot was previously head of global accounts management for Brussels Airlines and area manager for the airline’s Africa region. She has also held senior roles within Air New Zealand.
Based in Brussels, Gillegot will split her time between bmi regional’s operations in the UK, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, France and Switzerland.
She said: “I’m thrilled to be joining bmi regional at a time when the company is growing its network and expanding into new markets. Its strength lies in its flexibility and this position provides an exciting opportunity to get involved in really shaping the company as it continues to move forward into the next stage of its evolution.”
bmi regional operates over 600 flights a week throughout the UK and Europe. The carrier was purchased from IAG in May this year and operates as a fully independent airline, retaining the bmi regional name and continuing to provide domestic services throughout the UK and into Europe.
The company is committed to retaining the airline’s iconic brand values and high levels of service which include check-in up to 30 minutes prior to departure, Online and self check-in options plus seat selection, 20kg hold baggage allowance and complimentary catering onboard.
