British Airways to rely on Lido/Flight for efficient flight planning

British Airways (BA) is going to use the proven flight planning solution Lido/Flight from Lufthansa Systems for another five years. The airline has been relying on Lido/Flight since 1999. Lido/Flight enables airlines to realize fuel savings of up to five percent. In addition, British Airways has extended the use of the FMS navigations database, Lido/FMS, for five years as well.

With its modern technology and user-friendly architecture, Lido/Flight covers all aspects of flight planning. The automatic calculation of routes takes flight-related information into account such as weather data and all current aeronautical restrictions like NOTAMs. The system provides dispatchers with a host of optimization options regarding flight time, fuel consumption or costs for each flight. BA will benefit from additional modules including the In-flight Monitoring module (IFM). The module automatically monitors every flight which has been calculated but not yet completed. The system reports all updated airspace restrictions, airport data and weather and automatically suggests alternative routes to the dispatcher if necessary.

British Airways is a leading international carrier and a member of the oneworld alliance. Based at London Heathrow airport, BA serves over 170 destinations on all continents. In 2010, British Airways and Iberia joined forces and formed the International Airlines Group (IAG) to serve their passengers even better.
