Brussels Airlines long haul network grows significantly

During the month of August the number of Brussels Airlines passengers to and from Africa grew by 5 percent. The seat load factor of the European flights increased by over 3 percent. Overall the Belgian airline registered a slight passenger decline during the last vacation month.

A total of 522,790 passengers flew with Brussels Airlines over the past month. That’s 0.7 percent less than last year. The slight decrease is due to the fact that fewer European scheduled flights were offered and the seat offer was better adapted to market demand. This led to an improved seat load factor on the European flights. With the extra capacity, the airline operated several charter flights to holiday destinations. The passenger figures of these charter flights, commissioned by tour operators, are not included in the overall passenger statistics.

August 2013 was a peak month for the intercontinental network. Almost one in five Brussels Airlines passengers flew to a long haul destination. 77.582 passengers chose Brussels Airlines for their flights to and from Africa (+5 percent) and 23.246 passengers traveled with Brussels Airlines between Brussels Airport and US destinations Washington and New York JFK.
