Buenos Aires International Airlines obtains concession to launch routes

Buenos Aires International Airlines (BAIA) obtained a government concession to operate "domestic and international scheduled air transport of passengers, cargo and mail, with large aircraft" on 178 routes, following its initial request in September 2017.

The authorization includes 22 domestic from Buenos Aires, 48 Latin American routes from Buenos Aires, Cordoba and Rosario, and multiple unconventional routes.

The project is run by the aviation consulting firm Seabury Capital, who acquired Buenos Aires-based technology solutions company Volartec a few years ago. The tech company is run by Christian Maggio, one of the former owners of Southern Winds.

BAIA plans to begin operations with 11 B737-800 aircraft, or eventually the MAX 7, 8 or 9 - an investment of about US$136 million. The carrier may also operate the A320.
