Cathay Pacific opts for additional flight deck solution from Lufthansa Systems

Cathay Pacific has selected Lufthansa Systems for the provision of their Airport Mapping Database Lido/AMDB. The AMDB will provide the necessary airport data to run the Onboard Airport Navigation System (OANS) in the airline’s’ Boeing B747-8 fleet.

“With Lufthansa Systems’ Lido/AMDB, we receive precise, up-to-date airport maps that are important to smooth flight operations. This increases the safety of flights while offering our pilots the benefits of an integrated system,” says Mark Hoey, General Manager Operations at Cathay Pacific.

Lufthansa Systems’ Airport Mapping Database Lido/AMDB is a highly accurate and geo-referenced representation of the layout of an airport. This includes the geometry of runways, taxiways and buildings as well as further attributes such as surface type, object identifier and runway slope. Using the Lido/AMDB with an integrated airport moving map application supports cockpit crews in orienting themselves on the airport during taxi operations.

“We are delighted that Cathay Pacific has opted for an additional product from our portfolio so that we can expand our cooperation with the airline,” said Olivier Krüger, Senior Vice President Regional Management Asia Pacific at Lufthansa Systems. “With its high standards of quality and its focus on new modern solutions, Cathay Pacific is clearly a pioneer in the region.”

Cathay Pacific is based in Hong Kong, China, and operates internationally. The airline offers passenger and cargo flights to 179 destinations worldwide with a fleet of 136 wide-body aircraft. Cathay Pacific, together with its subsidiaries Dragonair and Air Hong Kong and its other associates, employs more than 31,000 people worldwide. The airline is a founding member of the oneworld alliance, whose joint network covers nearly 1,000 destinations worldwide.
