Paris, Amstelveen, 25 March 2013. Corendon Airlines has signed a long-term contract with AFI KLM E&M. The Turkish carrier currently operates five Boeing 737-800s with CFM56-7 engines. The contract includes two types of services. The first, dubbed “Core Performance Restoration”, is an intermediate maintenance procedure between a complete overhaul and on wing maintenance. The second, known as “Life Cycle Parts Replacement” involves replacing used engine parts after a given number of cycles.
The benefit of a spare engine
A first engine has already been overhauled at the AFI KLM E&M engine shop in Amsterdam. Three others are scheduled to follow this year, and five others by 2015. According to, AFI KLM E&M VP Sales International, Rob Pruim: “We were able to convince Corendon on the strength of our adaptiveness, know-how and efficiency. With one key advantage: when we remove an engine to send it to our engine shop, we can immediately offer our customer the use of a spare engine. Thanks to that replacement, when we carried out our first engine check, the Corendon aircraft was grounded for less than 24 hours.”
Oguzhan Horasanli, Corendon’s Powerplant Engineer, said: “We selected AFI KLM E&M because they offer the best balance between technical skills and price competitiveness. And because of its experience, it is a group that is able to provide full coverage of services to the customers ? something that inspires trust. They also demonstrated promised speed of their turn around time on the first engine, which minimized our lease engine costs.”
