Since the beginning of the year, airberlin has continuously welcomed more passengers on board per flight than in the previous year. This trend has continued in the last month and the airline company has further increased its flight capacity utilization. In May 2013, airberlin was able to increase capacity utilization by 4.5 percentage points to 82.27 percent and welcomed 2,955,682 passengers on board.
The revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) in May increased by 2.3 percent to 4.44 billion, whereas airberlin reduced the available seat kilometers (ASK) by 3.3 percent to 5.39 billion in the context of the flight schedule optimization.
For the January to May period of the year 2013, airberlin increased capacity utilization by 3.4 percentage points in yearly comparison, to 84.39 percent, and welcomed a total of 11,356,691 passengers on board. The available seat kilometers totaled 20.92 billion and the revenue passenger kilometers amounted to 17.65 billion.
For 2013, airberlin has changed the way it calculates its capacity utilization. The capacity utilization calculation is now determined according to the sector standard, and the revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) are compared to the available seat kilometers (ASK). For the purpose of a yearly comparison, the capacity utilization for 2012 was likewise calculated anew.
