Europe Airpost flying paperless with cockpit solutions from Lufthansa Systems

French charter and cargo airline Europe Airpost takes off into the future of paperless flying with electronic cockpit solutions from Lufthansa Systems. The carrier will soon be utilizing the company’s Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) solution Lido/FlightBag for its Class 2 EFB as well as the Lido/eRouteManual navigation charts. Both companies recently signed a five-year contract to this effect.

The EFB is an in-cockpit communication platform that provides pilots with all relevant data and documents. Pilot cases full of paper documents are thus a thing of the past. The Lido/eRouteManual electronic navigation charts are configured for use in Lido/FlightBag and are generated directly from the Lido navigation database. “The Lido solutions from Lufthansa Systems give us the best prerequisites for efficient flight operations: reduced costs, simplified logistics and data that is always up-to-date,” explains Philippe Lonnoy, Chief Pilot and Flight Operations Manager at Europe Airpost. “This is an important step into the future for our airline that always based its development on innovation.”

Lido/FlightBag is a technologically advanced solution for a paperless cockpit. It gives pilots access to all relevant operational data such as briefing documents, navigation charts and technical manuals. At the same time, this electronic platform translates into considerable cost savings for the airline in terms of printing and logistics for these materials. The crew has access to the very latest operational data at all times, and the time lag between updating and distributing paper documentation can be minimized.

The navigation charts’ clear color-coding and self-explanatory symbols support visual thinking. They display true-to-scale geographic information such as terrain features and rivers. Europe Airpost will initially use the paper-based charts from Lido/RouteManual and then switch to Lido/eRouteManual after obtaining the operational approval. Both systems have an identical look-and-feel, making it easy for crews to switch.

”Increasing numbers of airlines are recognizing the advantages of the paperless cockpit,” explains Marco Cesa, Senior Vice President Sales EMEA at Lufthansa Systems. ”We are very pleased that our long-standing customer Europe Airpost has also decided to select our cockpit solutions and we very much look forward to continuing our trusted relationship.”

Europe Airpost is the world’s largest operator of Quick Change Boeing 737-300s, offering passenger services during the day and transporting mail and freight for European post offices and express freight operators in Europe by night. The airline has been using IT solutions from Lufthansa Systems for over ten years now, including NetLine/Ops and NetLine/Crew for flight operation and crew planning, respectively.
