Cobham Aviation Services, the Adelaide, Australia-based subsidiary of the British aerospace and defence group Cobham Plc, has signed a contract for the long-term lease of an Avro RJ100 regional jet (Msn E3301) that will be delivered in the final quarter of this year to fulfill a contract extension until 2018 of a long-standing contract that Cobham has with energy company Santos.
The 99-seat aircraft will be based in Adelaide to operate up to eight weekly return services to Moomba and Ballera in the Cooper Basin oil and gas fields.
The contract between Cobham and Santos will take the relationship of the two companies to a total of 28 years since Cobham’s predecessor National Jet Systems began its Fly-in; Fly-out (FIFO) work for the energy company in 1990.
In parallel, Cobham’s relationship with Falko also goes back to the early 1990s when the two companies entered into their first contracts for the lease of BAe 146 jets. Since that time many aircraft lease and sales transactions have taken place between both companies, making Cobham one of Falko’s longest established and most valued customers.
This means that a total of five RJ100s will be deployed by Cobham in Australia by the end of the year.
