Fastjet: Traffic stats reveal rapid progress

The latest traffic stats from Africa-focused low cost carrier fastJet (LON:FJET) reveal a month of rapid progress.

Chief executive Ed Winter revealed its Tanzanian operation, the first part of the business using modern jets and the budget model, made US$1.8mln in May, representing a 50% rise compared with the start of the year. Revenue per passenger has by 62%.

At the same time, fastJet recored strong growth from its operations in Angola and Ghana.

Overall, fastJet carried 81,303 passengers last month for a rise of 54.3% giving a 12-month rolling total of 837,303, up almost 47%.

Winter said: “Since the start of the year, we have grown the business substantially in the face of considerable challenges.

“Our prospects in each of our operations look very positive and our aim to become Africa’s first low-cost carrier is well on its way to becoming a reality.

“Operational performance for the month, a key fastjet differentiator, remains excellent with a May achievement of 95 per cent of flights arriving within 15 minutes of schedule and no cancellations."
