As part of the restructuring of Finnair Technical Services, Finnair Technical Services Oy and Finland Transval Oy have today signed a business transfer agreement on Finnair Technical Services’ warehousing operations. The agreement will enter into affect on 1 June 2011, when approximately 60 Finnair Technical Services employees will transfer to the service of Suomen Transval Oy.
“In cooperation with Suomen Transval, our goal is to safeguard future jobs and at the same time seek flexible service for Finnair with a familiar logistics partner,” says Vice President Erkka Suvikumpu of Finnair Technical Services.
“We have already had many productive years of working with Finnair. The new agreement will give a valuable boost in our growing, flexible cooperation with Finnair,” says Managing Director Risto Vilo of Suomen Transval Oy.
Finnair Technical Services’ statutory consultation on its restructuring, which began in mid-February, ended in March. Discussions concerned Finnair Technical Services’ plans to discontinue aircraft maintenance in respect of the heavily loss-making base maintenance of aircraft, mainly offered to companies outside Finnair. Finnair will continue maintenance and repair operations for its own fleet.
The job reduction plan related to Finnair Technical Services’ restructuring has been adjusted and there will be approximately 400 redundancies. Finnair Technical Services currently has around 1,600 employees.
