Finnair: Traffic Performance August 2012

In August, Finnair traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres rose by 9.9 per cent as the overall capacity grew 4.6 per cent year‐on‐year. Passenger load factor improved by 3.9 percentage points and was 80.8 per cent.

Traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres grew significantly in all scheduled traffic areas apart from North Atlantic traffic. Strongest growth was seen in Europe where the traffic grew by 11.4 per cent. Asian traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres increased 6.8 per cent year‐on‐year.

“In August, we saw strong demand in all traffic areas. European traffic growth of over eleven per cent was especially pleasing. Leisure traffic also grew significantly from last year, mainly as a result of growth in flight capacity sold to major tour operators,” says Finnair CFO Erno Hildén.

In August, leisure traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres grew by 43.1 per cent, as capacity grew by 39.3 per cent year-on-year. The load factor improved by 2.5 percentage points and was 93 per cent.

In cargo, traffic measured in revenue tonne kilometres decreased by 1.6 per cent as the overall capacity decreased by 6.3 per cent. The load factor rose by 3.3 percentage points and was 69.1 per cent.

In August, the arrival punctuality was excellent and it improved year-on-year. In scheduled traffic, 93.7 per cent (90.8 per cent in August 2011) of flights arrived on schedule, 93.4 per cent (90.4 per cent) in all traffic.
