First Austrian Airlines Flight Today to Newark

Starting today Austrian Airlines is offering a further North American destination in its summer flight schedule. It will fly directly to Newark five times a week with a Boeing 767. Thus Austrian Airlines is offering up to two daily flights to New York in addition to its flight service each day to New York JFK. Austrian Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Karsten Benz personally welcomed the first passengers today and ceremoniously inaugurated the new route to New York (please note the enclosed pictures).

“With the new offering Austrian Airlines is now flying up to two times per day to the New York metropolitan area. Together with our partner United Airlines we will now be able to offer our passengers more than 120 transfer connections throughout North America in the future”, says Austrian Airlines CCO Karsten Benz. “We expect more than 100,000 additional passengers each year as a result of our North American expansion. Newark alone should account for about 50,000 passengers by the end of 2014“.

Accordingly, Austrian Airlines offers a total of 33 weekly non-stop flights to North America in its summer flight schedule. In addition to 12 flights per week serving the two airports in New York, it also operates a Boeing 777 to Washington each day and a Boeing 767 aircraft to Chicago and Toronto. Austrian Airlines first incorporated Chicago in its flight offering again in May 2013. In the meantime, it has expanded flight service from five to seven weekly flights due to the high demand. Capacity to Washington was recently increased due to the deployment of a large aircraft, namely a Boeing 777 instead of the Boeing 767 which was previously in use.

Newark is not only interesting as a point-to-point destination, but also for transfer flights. The route network of Austrian Airlines to and from Central and Eastern Europe, which includes such destinations as Prague, Bucharest, Sofia, Belgrade and Skopje, is also of importance for American passengers.
