Flybe, operated by Stobart Air, has reported strong interest in advance bookings for tickets on their three new routes to Groningen, Muster Osnabruck and Rennes, which take off on 5 June.
This week, Monday 19 May was the busiest day yet for advance ticket bookings as the airline remains on course to surpass 10,000 bookings at the end of the month.
Last month Flybe announced details of its six new routes operated by Stobart Air from London Southend Airport – which are on sale at www.flybe.com.
Services to Rennes, Groningen and Münster Osnabrück will commence on 5 June, with services to Caen Normandy and Antwerp starting on 3 July. From 10 July the Maastricht route will come into operation. The new Flybe routes announced last month will be operated by its franchise partner, Stobart Air, under a five-year agreement.
Commenting on the growing demand for advance booking tickets, Simon Fagan, Chief Commercial Officer, Stobart Air, said “With almost 10,000 tickets already sold, we are on course to meet our target of carrying up to 700,000 passengers on our new London Southend routes within three years. Weekend bookings are quite popular and we are seeing a surge in weekday bookings as the launch day approaches.”
He added “These three routes are clearly resonating with both business and leisure passengers in Southend. Münster in Germany is a vibrant city that is home to thousands of university students. The best way of seeing this culturally rich city is by bike, as it is famous for being the bicycle capital of Germany. Groningen also enjoys a good reputation for cycling as 57% of journeys made in the city are by bike. The city also boasts having one of the Netherland’s best city centres for night life activity. Our Rennes route is very popular with leisure visitors who want to explore the historical and cultural hub of Brittany. We look forward to welcoming passengers on board from 5 June.”
London Southend Airport Managing Director, Roger Clements, said “We are very encouraged by the growing demand for the three routes commencing on 5 June. This bookings surge proves that London Southend is continuing to become a popular travel hub for both continental and London bound passengers. As the popularity of London Southend grows we hope that these recent route expansions will bring a boost to the economy to the local area.”
A new Flybe route from London Southend to Newquay Cornwall took off on Saturday 17 May 2014 of its inaugural flight to Newquay Cornwall Airport from London Southend Airport. It is operating a three times a week summer service through until 27 September
