Iberia signs commercial agreement with Mexico's Aeromar

Iberia and the Mexican carrier Aeromar have reached an agreement that enlarge travel options for the customers of both airlines. As of 5th June Iberia passengers to can book their tickets to any of 18 Aeromar’s destinations in Mexico that are covered by the agreement.

Meanwhile, passengers from Aeromar’s domestic destination can connect to Iberia Madrid-bound flights in Mexico City and carry on to any of the Spanish airline’s 31 domestic destinations, 27 elsewhere in Europe, and 13 in Africa and the Middle East.

Madrid connections will be made at Iberia’s T4 hub at Madrid-Barajas airport, recently voted the world’s third best air terminal in a Skytrax survey of more than 12 million passengers in some 400 of the world’s airports.

The Mexican cities covered by the agreement are Acapulco, Aguascalientes, Ciudad Victoria, Colima, Durango, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Jalapa, Lázaro Cárdenas, Manzanillo, Matamoros, Morelia, Piedras Negras, Poza Rica, Puerto Escondido, Saltillo, San Luis Potosí, Tepic, and Veracruz.

Tickets are available through Serviberia en Mexico (11 01 15 15), at Aeromar offices and call centres, and travel agents. Iberia flies twice a day between Madrid and Mexico City every day except Tuesdays and Thursdays, when it operates just one return flight. The frequency of flights facilitates connections to/from all other Iberia destinations.

Iberia’s top manager in Mexico, Félix Gómez, said he was “highly satisfied” by the terms of the agreement with Aeromar and stressed that it enables Iberia “to offer our extensive network of flights in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East to nearly all Mexicans”.

For Fabricio Coujuc, Aeromar’s Executive VP for Sales and Planning, “This alliance with Iberia is a major step for our airline, enabling us to consolidate our route network and make our destinations accessible to international traffic, increasing our connectivity.”

Aeromar, Mexico’s leading regional carrier, is based at Terminal 2 at Mexico City International Airport, and operates some 100 flights every day. It will soon become North America’s first user of the ATR 72-600, the 68-seat turboprop aircraft regarded as the most advanced and safest regional aircraft of its kind.

Iberia’s new Business and Tourist class on intercontinental flights

On its Madrid-Mexico City route Iberia uses its largest aircraft, the 342-seat Airbus A-340/600. Over the next 18-24 months all 17 of its A-340-600s will be equipped with all-new Business Plus and Tourist Class seating sections.

The new Business Plus section features seats that unfold to become flat beds nearly 2 metres in length, as well as an entertainment system based on a 15.4-inch touch screen for viewing any of 50 feature films, nearly 80 television series, documentaries and other programmes, or to play 3D video games. Two hundred music options are also available. Tourist class will boast side seats and a touch screen-based entertainment system. The aircraft will have Wi-Fi so all passengers can easily connect to the Internet.
