KENYA AIRWAYS FLIGHT B737 SIMULATOR CERTIFIED

Kenya Airways has commenced its in-house aircraft simulator training for pilots after the B737 simulator was evaluated, certified and accredited for training use by both the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).   The evaluation of the Boeing 737-800W simulator was carried out by both parties following a formal request by the airline to be accredited.

With the certification, Kenya Airways’ new simulator can now offer relevant training to pilots from all over the world at the airlines training center, the Pride Centre. The B737-800W Next Generation simulator is a synthetic trainer which offers a replicate to the actual flight deck layout and functionality combined with both a visual and 3 axis motion system. It is used for training on aircraft standard operating procedures and also for training pilots on emergency procedures which cannot be done on an actual aircraft.

Before acquiring the simulator, Kenya Airways used to outsource simulator training for its pilots. Other than the high training costs there was poor crew utilization as it meant traveling to Europe, Dubai, South Africa or Addis Ababa often.  The Kenya Airways simulator is the only one of its kind in East and Central Africa. It is available for 20 hours a day, translating to training 5 sets of crew per day.
