Air Transat is the latest airline to join the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) as an associate airline member.
Air Transat, a business unit of Transat A.T. Inc., is Canada’s leading holiday travel airline. Every year, it carries some 3 million passengers to nearly 60 destinations in 30 countries primarily in Europe, the Caribbean, Latin America and Mexico. This winter, the airline operates 14 Airbus (A-330 and A-310) and 14 Boeing B737 aircraft.
By serving leisure travel markets in response to seasonal demand, Air Transat has developed considerable expertise in flexible fleet management, using wide-body aircraft on transatlantic European routes in the summer, as well as for sun destination markets in the winter in conjunction with an augmented state-of-the-art B737 NG fleet.
Commenting on Air Transat and the importance of its membership, Eduardo Iglesias, Executive Director of ALTA, said: “Latin American but specially the Caribbean region benefits from an increasing level of traffic from Canadians looking to enjoy warmer weather and the natural attractions the Caribbean offers to its visitors. Air Transat continues to grow its presence in Latin America and the Caribbean, and ALTA is ready to work in further expanding our partnership. We are glad that Air Transat has taken the important step of joining our association to become a dynamic player in the community of airlines doing business in the region.”
“As Canada’s leading holiday travel airline, we are very pleased to join ALTA, which represents the leading airline industry operators in this important growth region for our company. We look forward to working with our new partners in achieving our common objectives of safer, more cost-efficient and environmentally friendly air transport in Latin America and the Caribbean” said Jean-François Lemay, General Manager of Air Transat.
Every year, Transat markets more than 1 million round-trip seats outbound from Canada to sun destinations mainly in the winter season, and more than 1 million round-trip seats on the transatlantic market between Canada and some 30 European destinations, mostly in summer.
