Libyan Airlines optimizes flight operations with aeronautical solutions from Lufthansa Systems

Lufthansa Systems today announced that Libyan Airlines has selected a comprehensive package of its aeronautical solutions. The two companies signed a five-year contract for the Lido/Flight flight planning solution as well as the Lido/RouteManual and Lido/eRouteManual navigation charts.

Thanks to its cutting-edge technology, Lido/Flight covers all aspects of flight planning and provides dispatchers with many optimization options regarding flight time, fuel consumption or costs of each flight. Taking into account the latest flight-related data such as weather conditions, total weight and the availability of airways, Lido/Flight calculates the most suitable route for each flight from all available options. This can lead to fuel savings of up to five percent.

The paper-based Lido/RouteManual chart solution and its electronic counterpart Lido/eRouteManual provide Libyan Airlines with navigation charts for take-off and landing procedures as well as airport and route charts. Generated directly from the Lido navigation database, the charts contain all important route information including altitude and airport data. The charts are updated weekly and the latest version can be downloaded for briefing at all times.

“We need a powerful flight planning system and first-class navigation charts to ensure efficient and flexible day-to-day operations at Libyan Airlines. We selected Lido/Flight because of its high degree of automation and strong route optimization capabilities,” said Captain Fadel Elkaseh, Flight Operations Director from Libyan Airlines.

“We are delighted to welcome Libyan Airlines as our new customer. Thanks to our IT solutions for optimum flight planning we will make a significant contribution toward optimizing the efficiency of Libyan Airlines’ flight operations,” said Marco Cesa, Senior Vice President Regional Management Europe, Middle East & Africa at Lufthansa Systems.
Based in Tripoli, Libyan Airlines is the national carrier of Libya. With its fleet of 16 aircraft (7 A320, 7 CRJ900 and 2 ATR42-500) the airline intends to relaunch service to destinations in Europe in March 2013.
