More than half of Lufthansa’s long-haul and cargo flights scheduled to depart from Germany tomorrow will operate. In spite of the industrial action, no strike-related flight cancellations are expected at Lufthansa Cargo. Of the 85 flights scheduled to depart from Germany, 43 will take off. Lufthansa expects long-haul flight operations to be largely normal again on Friday. The short and medium-haul flights affected by today’s strike will operate as scheduled from tomorrow onwards.
After the Vereinigung Cockpit pilots’ union (VC) announced further strike action on long-haul routes and at Lufthansa Cargo for the whole of Thursday, 19 March even before the start of the strike on short and medium-haul flights at Lufthansa German Airlines on 18 March, Lufthansa published a special flight timetable on www.LH.com for the entire strike period. The special flight timetable for today’s short and medium-haul flights will operate as planned.
Lufthansa will be concentrating today and tomorrow on informing and assisting the passengers affected by the strike. It will be supported here by other airlines within the Lufthansa Group. Today, Austrian Airlines operated three flights on the Frankfurt–Vienna route using a wide-bodied Boeing 777 with more than 300 seats on board – the largest aircraft in the Austrian Airlines fleet. This route is usually served by an A320 aircraft. Germanwings, which normally does not fly from Frankfurt, operated flights from Frankfurt to Düsseldorf and to Rome today on behalf of Lufthansa.
