Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey (LTAA) opened a new, second aircraft engine test facility at its site in Alzey, Rhineland-Palatinate, on 17 June. The company, which specializes in engine maintenance for regional aircraft, invested around 3.3 million euros in the construction of the second test facility. “The test facility underlines the significance of our Alzey site and is an essential prerequisite for the growth we are aiming at,” emphasizes Mark Johnson, CEO of Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey.
“Our commitment to this operation and the region was and is the right decision,” said the CEO of Lufthansa Technik AG, August Wilhelm Henningsen, at the official opening. For the Lufthansa Technik Group, Lufthansa Technik AERO Alzey represents an important line of business in a market segment that continues to be vital in the future.
The new test facility is particularly important for the new capacity it provides for tests of modern propeller engines up to 5,200 horsepower. This reduces the load on existing resources and increases the number of test runs that can be carried out by around 50 percent.
At present, the mechanics and engineers have been testing both propeller engines from Pratt&Whitney Canada and General Electric turbofans using the existing test facility. The products catered for include the PW100 series, PW150, CF34-3, CF34-8, CF34-10 and the auxiliary power unit PW901A. The engines are deployed on aircraft with capacities of 20 to 120 seats, manufactured, for example, by Aerospatiale/Alenia (ATR), Bombardier, Embraer, Dornier, Fokker and China’s XIAN Aircraft Co.
