Lufthansa Technik Logistik Services (LTLS), a specialist in aviation
logistics, has opened a new facility in the Chinese city of Shenzhen.
With this step, the company has laid a foundation that will enable it
to ensure more direct service to the growing Chinese market in the
future.
The new facility is located at the site of Lufthansa Technik Shenzhen
(LTS), a Chinese subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik that was established
for the supply and maintenance of components and aircraft structures
made of composite materials. LTS recently concluded a building
expansion program involving new construction of 24,000 m² of
production, warehouse and office space – a measure that offered ideal
conditions for the creation of the new logistics unit. More than 30
new employees at LTLS in Shenzhen will enjoy new space with modern
equipment and the opportunity to work according to LTLS’ globally
acknowledged high standards, including access to the extensive
expertise and knowledge of other LTLS specialists all over the world.
The new site features, among other things, a customs warehouse with
2,100 m² of space as well as a central incoming goods and shipping
area.
“An LTLS presence as the foundation for our joint new logistics
business is the ideal prerequisite for our future growth in the
Chinese market,” says Christian Ehlers, LTLS project manager. The
operation and approval of the new facility will be undertaken step by
step. Following process optimization for internal customers (those of
the Lufthansa Group), the customs warehouse is scheduled to be
approved in the medium term for simplified imports and exports as
well as other approvals that will enable LTLS to provide faster, more
direct service to the Chinese market. The new facility’s planned
portfolio of services includes not just general storage and the
customs warehouse, but also national and international transport
management, imports and exports, and engine storage and transport as
well as material procurement, purchasing and planning.
