Lufthansa Technik Malta (LTM), a subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik, is
expanding its hangar capacity for maintenance and overhaul work on
Airbus widebody aircraft. With the addition to the smallest of the
three hangars in Malta, which has been used to date only for
narrowbody aircraft, the building will be able to accommodate
aircraft up to the size of an Airbus A330 or A340.
The additional, flexible maintenance dock in the enlarged hangar
means that engineers and mechanics at the company’s site at Malta
International Airport in Luqa can work on up to three widebody
aircraft simultaneously.
“With the expansion of one of our hangars, we can meet the growing
demand for technical services for aircraft from the Airbus A330/A340
family with more flexibility,” says LTM CEO Stephan Drewes. Lufthansa
Technik Malta has around 600 employees and more than 60,000 square
meters of hangar space in Luqa. With this most recent expansion, it
sees itself well positioned for the future. In addition to
maintenance and overhaul work, its spectrum of services includes
structural repairs, composite material repairs, aircraft painting and
complex cabin modifications.
LTM started operation 10 years ago and successfully performed over
865 checks and modifications on aircraft for an increasing number of
customers around the world. In 2012, LTM provided a total of 750,000
hours of work for Lufthansa Technik and expects a record breaking
workload for next year.
