Lufthansa Technik AG is the first maintenance, repair and overhaul
(MRO) provider in the world able to provide production inspection for
Boeing 787 aircraft for airline and VIP customers. In other words:
among the aircraft types whose production Lufthansa Technik can
supervise at customer request is now the Dreamliner, with its modern,
technically demanding composite materials technology.
Lufthansa Technik already has commissions to oversee the construction
of 50 Boeing 787s. The first aircraft for an unnamed customer passing
the quality checks conducted by Lufthansa Technik’s specialists was
finished in October, and four more will be delivered before the year
ends.
“This service is tailored individually to the customer’s interests.
It’s an important offer in marking the beginning of Lufthansa
Technik’s support for an aircraft across its entire life cycle, from
production to maintenance, overhaul and technical support and all the
way to a change in ownership or the end of service,” says Marcus
Motschenbacher, head of Network Sales and Customer Service base
maintenance at Lufthansa Technik.
During these independent quality checks on newly assembled aircraft,
Lufthansa Technik’s specialists perform an individual inspection on
site at the manufacturer’s aircraft production facility. Experienced
inspectors are stationed directly at the assembly line. The optimal
production quality achieved through this process ensures a high
degree of reliability in subsequent aircraft operation, and enables
reductions in the costs of operation, overhaul and repairs later on.
Lufthansa Technik offers these inspections for the aircraft of all
major manufacturers: Airbus, Boeing, ATR, Embraer and Bombardier.
