Malaysia Airlines has selected Lufthansa Systems for the provision of their Airport Mapping Database Lido/AMDB. The AMDB will provide the necessary airport data to run the Onboard Airport Navigation System (OANS) in the airline’s’ Airbus A380 fleet.
“With Lufthansa Systems’ Lido/AMDB, we receive precise, up-to-date airport maps that are important to smooth flight operations. This increases the safety of flights while offering our pilots the benefits of an integrated system,” says Capt. Izham Ismail, Director of Operations at Malaysia Airlines.
Lufthansa Systems’ Airport Mapping Database Lido/AMDB is a highly accurate and geo-referenced representation of the layout of an airport. This includes the geometry of runways, taxiways and buildings as well as further attributes such as surface type, object identifier and runway slope. Using the Lido/AMDB with an integrated airport moving map application supports cockpit crews in orienting themselves on the airport during taxi operations.
“We are delighted that Malaysia Airlines has opted for an additional product from our portfolio so that we can expand our cooperation with the airline,” said Olivier Krüger, Senior Vice President Regional Management Asia Pacific at Lufthansa Systems. “With its high standards of quality and its focus on new modern solutions, Malaysia Airlines is clearly a pioneer in the region.”
Malaysia Airlines serves over 100 destinations worldwide with a fleet of more than 80 short- and long-haul aircraft. The airline has been recognized many times over the years for its outstanding service, and its cabin crews have been voted the best in the world on numerous occasions. At the World Travel Awards 2011, Malaysia Airlines won the awards for “Asia’s Leading Airline” and “Asia’s Leading Airline Lounge”.
