Munich, July 25th, 2013 – MTU Aero Engines AG’s supervisory board today voted to extend chief operating officer Dr. Rainer Martens’ contract. Martens has been a member of MTU’s board of management since April 15, 2006, with overall responsibility for engineering and production. The contract renewal is for a term of five years, commencing on April 15, 2014.
“I’m very pleased to continue in my role as COO, especially so knowing that MTU has everything in place for a great future, so that all of us will be in for even more exciting challenges to come,” Martens said. “The most pressing topic on the agenda for the coming years will be the preparations for introducing the new-generation GTF engines into service. As we step up our efforts in the field of development and engineering and expand production at MTU’s company locations, we need to succeed in assuring that we maintain the high quality standards that have become our hallmark.”
Martens, who grew up in Oldenburg, studied mechanical engineering at Hannover University. From 1997 to 2001, he headed up MTU’s turbine blade/vane production center. He then transferred to Airbus to become production manager at the company’s Bremen plant before he rejoined MTU.
