MTU Maintenance Zhuhai increases MRO capacity by 50 percent

Zhuhai, China, Munich, November 12, 2012 – In order to meet the growing expectations of the global aviation market, MTU Maintenance Zhuhai, a joint venture between Germany’s leading engine manufacturer MTU Aero Engines and China Southern Air Holding Company, has extended its main engine repair shop by 5,900 square meters to increase the overall capacity by 50 percent from currently 200 to 300 shop visits per year. “We are very proud of this milestone,” said Dr. Stefan Weingartner, President Commercial Maintenance and member of the board at MTU Aero Engines, at the opening celebration. “MTU Maintenance Zhuhai has been operating in China for more than ten years now and has become a strong, competent and reliable partner with excellent growth potential. With the enlarged plant, we are perfectly prepared for that growth.”

The engine shop was extended considerably and hosts a state-of-the-art machine park to better streamline the current process flow and to accommodate more engines. “Our workload has increased rapidly over the past years,” adds Xin’an Yuan, Vice President China Southern Air Holding Company and Chairman of MTU Maintenance Zhuhai. “I am confident that we will continue down this road in the future. China is one of the fastest growing regions in the aviation business worldwide, and MTU Maintenance Zhuhai has always been the market leader for MRO services in China.”

As part of the MTU Maintenance network of companies, MTU Maintenance Zhuhai started operations in 2003 and is today the largest engine maintenance provider in China. The company focuses on the repair of V2500 and CFM56 engines of customers from all over the world. The test bed is one of the biggest and most advanced of its class in the world and can accommodate all commercial engine types delivering up to 150,000 pounds of thrust. MTU Maintenance Zhuhai has been authorized by CAAC, EASA, FAA and Airworthiness bureaus of Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam and Japan among others.
