PEGASUS AIRLINES CONTINUES TO GROW BY INVESTING IN LATEST GROUND-BREAKING TECHNOLOGY

LONDON (April 12 2011) - Pegasus Airlines, which introduced the Turkish public to the easy way to fly with the motto ‘everybody has the right to fly’, have just announced their new ground-breaking technological investments catching the world’s attention, during a presentation at the Pegasus Flight Education Centre. Not only has Pegasus Airlines established a training centre with the newest flight simulator in Turkey, thus becoming the 58th owner of this special latest-technology simulator out of a total of 582 of the world’s airlines; Pegasus has also begun to integrate the Wireless Groundlink End to End Network Solutions system of duplex data transfer into their fleet; both developments meaning Pegasus is racing ahead in terms of technological investments.

Pegasus Airlines Chairman Ali Sabanci, General Manager Sertac Haybat, Pegasus Flight Training Centre Manager Cahit Tasbas and Pegasus Flight Safety Manager Kemal Helvac?oglu together outlined the heights that aviation technology has now reached.

Pegasus Airlines Chairman of the Executive Board Ali Sabanci explained how Pegasus, the company which has made the greatest investment in a new fleet in Turkey’s private sector and in doing so provided its guests with economical, safe and on-time flights, has broken new ground in global aviation history with 2 new technological investments worth US $ 23.5 million. “Pegasus, which operates a low cost carrier model, is a ‘high cost’ airline as far as flight safety and technology are concerned. As we continue to renew our fleet of aircraft with the aim of expanding further, we are not shying away investing in the world’s newest technology. We are gathered here today to share with you the latest versions of these two technological innovations with an investment value to the tune of US $ 23.5 million,” commented Sabanci.

Summing up Pegasus’ foray into technology, General Manager Sertac Haybat, explained that all of the company’s operations from A to Z are managed with technology at their heart, and thus is the key to why Pegasus has changed the Turkish aviation industry by applying: “The right product in the right market with the latest in technology”. Haybat continued: “Today and here now, we are adding two more significant innovations to our existing technological infrastructure. Pegasus Airlines has now established a training centre with the newest flight simulator in the whole of Turkey. We are the 58th owner of this simulator out of 582 of the world’s airlines; in other words, with this investment we have taken our place among the top 10% of the airlines in the world. In addition, we have begun to integrate the Wireless Groundlink End to End Network Solutions system of duplex data transfer into our fleet. With this beginning we have broken new ground in world aviation and I am very proud to be able to share this great news with you.”

Pegasus Flight Training Centre Manager Cahit Tasbas proceeded to provide details on the new Boeing 737-800W Next Generation simulator: “Our new simulator, equipped with the latest technology is now the only simulator in Turkey which instructs on ‘how to take an aircraft out of an abnormal situation’. According to Civil Aviation regulations, complying pilots must fly using a simulator for a four-hour period at least three times. To fulfill other requirements from elsewhere in the regulation code, our pilots must each take 16 hours of tuition on a simulator. Between 2008 and 2010, the Pegasus Flight Training Centre instructed 568 pilots; of these 56 were foreigners, and some kings and princes even. Our aim is to continue supporting this tuition by using our new simulators.”

Pegasus Flight Safety Manager Kemal Helvac?oglu went on to outline a world first for the airline as it has adopted the Wireless Groundlink End to End Network Solutions system. He explained how the system, in partnership with American aviation technology giant Teledyne, has begun to be integrated in all aircraft enabling flight data to be downloaded within just 15 minutes: “With the Wireless Groundlink End to End Network Solutions system, data will be download in 15 minutes enabling flight information to be shared with company headquarters after every flight. This system, while maximising our guests’ comfort and safety, will also optimise our teaching methods. In other words, in this way an aircraft’s MR will be obtained within 15 minutes.”
