Traffic results at Prague Airport confirmed the expectations of an immense growth over the same period of the last year in the month of April 2011. April 2010 was significantly affected by the spread of volcanic ash following the eruptions of an Icelandic volcano. However, the year-on-year increase of passenger volumes by 27.6% to the total of 1,003,604 passengers even surpassed the record number from April 2008. The number of aircraft movements rose by nearly 10% to 12,531 take-offs and landings. Air cargo traffic at Prague Airport continued in its positive development with 17.7% higher cargo volumes than last year.
While the charter segment remained at the previous year’s levels in terms of passenger numbers, low cost airlines carried 19.4% more passengers and full service carriers achieved a robust growth by 34.4%.The number of transferring passengers grew by 11% and kept its average share of around 20% from all departing passengers at Prague Airport.
In April 2011, the three most popular countries were Germany on the top position followed by France and the United Kingdom. The majority of destinations also experienced a significant growth in travel volumes. The top 3 places are consistently occupied by Paris/Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt and Moscow/Sheremetyevo.
