Pratt & Whitney to Provide PurePower® PW1500G Engines on Bombardier CSeries Aircraft Order for Undisclosed Major Network Carrier

PARIS, June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — PARIS AIR SHOW — Pratt & Whitney will power 10 firm and up to 6 option CS100 CSeries* aircraft ordered by an undisclosed major network carrier. The deal represents 20 firm PW1500G series engines covered by a PureSolution(SM) maintenance service agreement. Pratt & Whitney is a division of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

“We are very pleased to welcome a new major network carrier to the growing list of PurePower engine operators,” said Todd Kallman, President, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines & Global Services. “Testing of the PurePower PW1500G engine for the CSeries aircraft is going extremely well with the engine meeting or exceeding its performance targets.”

Each Bombardier CSeries aircraft is powered by two PurePower PW1500G series engines. The PurePower PW1000G series engines use an advanced gear system allowing the engine’s fan to operate at a different speed than the low-pressure compressor and turbine. The combination of the gear system and an all-new advanced core deliver double-digit improvements in fuel efficiency, environmental emissions and noise.

Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines. United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the global aerospace and building industries.
