The Government of Ukraine intends to promote economic growth and redevelop the tourism industry on the Crimean peninsula. Among other infrastructure this includes the modernization of Simferopol International Airport, which enjoys a quasi-monopolistic position as the point of entry for international tourists. Since 2009 several studies have been prepared in order to plan for the airport modernization.
Based on a competitive tender process Simferopol International Airport (SIA JSC) has selected Lufthansa Consulting to prepare a Public-Private-Partnership arrangement for the development of the airport of the Crimean capital.
The project shall focus on how to modernize the airport – especially passenger handling facilities – and how to finance the required investments. The idea is to involve private investors and an experienced airport operator in order to ensure professional airport management and compliance with international safety and quality standards.
Lufthansa Consulting as one of the leading aviation and strategy consultants focuses exclusively on aviation related projects. Numerous assignments for airports and airlines have been completed in the CIS. Lufthansa Consulting has successfully implemented airport concessions in Latin America and in Africa and is currently advising the governments of two developing countries on how to implement an airport concession.
