SYDNEY, 3 JUNE 2011: Fair Work Australia has approved a new pay agreement for around 7,500 Qantas workers.
Qantas airport check-in, administrative and telesales staff recently overwhelmingly endorsed a new enterprise bargaining agreement which provided a three per cent annual wage increase for the next three years.
Qantas Group Executive Operations Lyell Strambi said the airline was pleased to reach agreement with the ASU, which represents the largest part of the Qantas workforce.
“Qantas staff work extremely hard, provide excellent customer service and are very loyal to Qantas,” Mr Strambi said.
“We are a generous employer and offer pay and conditions which are generally well above the industry standard.
“We are pleased that we have been able to secure an agreement for the union representing the largest part of our workforce.
“Our check-in and staff do an amazing job and are the first interaction our customers have before they start their journey and our telesales and administrative staff are vital to the business.”
Employees employed at the time the Agreement becomes operative will receive back pay to July last year. The new EBA will be in place until Jul 2013. The Agreement was approved with an employee vote over 90% in favour of the agreement.
